Tell us about yourself and your family.
Hey!! I’m Becca. I am a lifelong Knoxville native, an aspiring creative, and a mom of two fun and wild kids. I grew up in the heart of Knoxville and spent most of my time figure skating at the Ice Chalet in Bearden. These days, most of my time is spent taking photos with strangers and spending time with my growing family. My husband grew up in Oak Ridge and currently attends LMU- Duncan School of Law. We both love UT football (VFL!), good food, and watching our kids explore all new things. We currently live in Oak Ridge and we love it!
What do you love about living in Knoxville/Oak Ridge?
I love the community of Oak Ridge. Don’t get me wrong, as a Knoxville Girlie, I have my fair share of biases, but there’s something a little more quiet and meaningful about this town. It’s a small town feel and I love it. There are many different people and cultures residing here, yet we all hold a similar respect: there’s that neighborly warmth and sense of community that unifies. I love and cherish those connection for my family and I.
What are your favorite family activities in the area?
We love to hike the spots. In summer, we love hiking the quarry trails in Knoxville and oak ridge. We love the st. Laurels Wind Rock overlook tower trail, as well.
We also love going ice skating at the Ice Chalet, checking out local farmers markets, and attending all of the many unique and fun festivals in and around Knoxville (Greek fest, the lavender festival, British fest, and Hola fest to name a few.)
Tell us about Becca Liz Photos.
Becca Liz Photos is an East Tennessee based photography business servicing those in and around the East Tennessee area. I fell in love with photography in high school and began practicing with friends and family for several years. After which, I soft launched myself out into the local area for photography, but never really marketed. After a hiatus, I am happy to announce that I am back to doing what I love and I am finding new ways everyday to reach more in the local areas.  I currently specialize in families, couples, and weddings. I absolutely love creating and memorializing moments with others and feel so grateful for the wonderful clients I have.
What type of photography do you do?
I am centered around families, portraits, couples, and weddings. Most of my work can fall under those milestone or lifestyle moments. Whether it’s prom, welcoming a new baby into a family, or a celebratory engagement, I am here and happy to capture the moment.
What is your favorite type of photography?
I love portraits and events most. I love storytelling and being able to capture raw and real moments as they are perceived and felt.
What do you love about photography and being a photographer in this area?
Storytelling is something I cherish and adore. In my time as a photographer, I have had the privilege of connecting stories to moments together. I get to hear stories, capture moments, even watch stories unfold. These experiences have given me the unique opportunity to gain a the perspective to note that it isn’t just about taking the photo or capturing the moment, but rather safekeeping the story, memorializing what is now, and what will one day be remembered.

I love being able to represent and familiarize a connection with the East Tennessee community. I love being able to witness the cultures, feelings, and moments in my art form. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, to meet so many wonderful people and find ways to connect their stories or love to art.

One of my favorite things about shooting in the area is by far— THE AREA. We have the best sunsets and the most majestic views.

Where is your favorite location to shoot at?
Really anywhere there’s some good sunset points. Seven Islands Birding Park (looking at you, spring. We will be hitting this up for some sessions this spring with their gorgeous floral fields), the Mounds, The BlueRidge Parkway, and LakeShore park are some honorable mentions.
Best mom hack that makes your life easier?
I would have to say one of my favorite hacks is teaching consequences and having a reward system. Pretty standard, but we have age appropriate point systems and I love that I can help randomly reward positive behavior over time and help my children understand positive and negative consequences. The point systems and consequences change to fit the age and interests of the child and it’s been so helpful. We learned this from child therapy years ago and have used it with both kids since!
Another hack is from my friend’s literacy page, @drbillens_thereadingprofessor . We now have reading corners and lots of graphic novels. Her page is so helpful to aid us in creating and cultivating a healthy relationship with early literacy. Her hacks are everything!
